# Historical Ganoes small-sprite comparison

Both candidates are drafts. The previous distorted v2 sprite was rejected and is not a reference for these images.

## Compare at the intended display scale

The game currently uses a 640x360 logical canvas, enlarged exactly 3x at 1080p. These previews are also enlarged 3x with nearest-neighbour filtering.

**B: 48x64 frame**

The larger candidate currently reads more clearly. These are two separately generated designs, so this is a practical candidate comparison rather than a controlled measurement of resolution alone. Both still need review for age, silhouette, overhead angle, hair and costume before an animation sheet is commissioned.

## In the engine

`../scenes/art_review.tscn` displays both at their actual logical scale on a neutral 32-pixel grid. Launch `../review_art.sh`, or open that scene in Godot and press F6. The grid is a scale aid, not finished map art.

Godot 4.7.2 successfully imported the project and ran this review scene. The capture is an actual engine render. This was captured before the prologue assembly. The current prologue and animated 48×64 cast are now implemented; see ../REVIEW_START_HERE.md.

## Source art, prompts and game frames

Built-in ImageGen generated the art directly in Codex. Aseprite performed transparency cleanup, cropping, uniform nearest-neighbour resizing and frame padding, preserving proportions within integer rounding. No automatic palette reduction or horizontal widening was applied to these exports.

The generated source images are large magnified images; the model did not guarantee an exact low-resolution grid. These small exports are deliberately shown for review before any animation work. They are individual south-facing idle poses, not animation sheets.

## Historical next milestone

After a sprite design is settled, make the matching directional poses and walking frames, then stage a short scripted arrival on the battlement. The prologue uses authored movement routes and requires no player movement, collision or automatic pathfinding.
